Godin 5th Avenue Archtop Jazz-Style Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst) Review

Godin 5th Avenue Archtop Jazz-Style Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst) Feature

  • Silver leaf maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays
  • Adjustable Tusq bridge by Graphtech

  • Cognac Burst finish
  • Canadian wild cherry top, back, and sides with cream binding
  • North American made

The 5th Avenue is Godin's take on the archtop jazz-style acoustic, complete with classic looks: Canadian cherry in a polished burst finish, a floating pickgaurd and cream binding, and the requisite F-holes. But with modern touches like a height-adjustable Tusq bridge by Graphtech, it definitely lets you keep one foot in the past and the other firmly in the present.

Godin 5th Avenue

A Modern Update on a Vintage Gem

The Godin 5th Avenue brings you back to a time when the archtop acoustic guitar reigned supreme. With the soul of a 1950's archtop, the 5th Avenue is a true vintage spirit of yesterday with today's level of modern playability. With more projection and volume in the low/mids than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated instrument a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. From Alt-Country, Delta Blues, Slide, Jazz to Rock, the 5th Avenue can really deliver.

Godin 5th Avenue Headstock
Modern touches like chrome-plated hardware and a gloss-black headstock.
Classic Construction

Made from Canadian Wild Cherry, the body of the 5th Avenue features a molded arched top and back, as well as classic f-holes, a contoured high-gloss headstock, floating pickguard and cream binding. Also, the rustic beauty of its Custom Polished Finish creates a gorgeous satin sheen, reminiscent of the French polish of the 19th century.

A height-adjustable rosewood bridge lets you dial things to perfection, and the silverleaf maple neck--featuring Godin's "ergocut" shaping technique--is a pleasure to play.

Godin LGX-SA Solid Body 3-Voice Electric Guitar (Trans Blue AAA)

Godin LGX-SA Solid Body 3-Voice Electric Guitar (Trans Blue AAA) Review

Godin LGX-SA Solid Body 3-Voice Electric Guitar (Trans Blue AAA) Feature

  • Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and offset dot inlays
  • Seymour Duncan SH II Jazz (Neck) and Custom III (Bridge), five-way switch, tone, volume
  • RMC transducer saddles with custom preamp and three-band EQ
  • Built-in 13-pin connector for Roland GR-Series synths and most other 13-pin devices
  • Mahogany body with carved, figured maple top

The flagship of the Godin Signature series takes all of the features of the LG Signature and adds two voices to create a three-voice masterpiece. The custom RMC system provides acoustic guitar sound and 13-pin output for synth/computer access. The result--sonic potential that is sure to spark your imagination in a seriously handsome guitar.

Godin LGX-SA

Mahogany Body With Maple Top

The body of the LGX-SA is made from a blend of two tonewoods--a mahogany body capped with a figured maple carved top. The flamed maple adds focus to the mahogany tone, and of course it looks great in a transparent finish.

Mahogany Neck With Ebony Fingerboard

Honduras Mahogany has a long history as the tonewood of choice for acoustic guitar necks. The same properties that give mahogany its appeal in an acoustic guitar--namely a warm harmonically rich sound--have a similar effect in a solid body electric guitar.

The ebony fingerboard on the LGX-SA not only contributes to a more focused sound, but also helps to optimize the guitar's synth tracking capabilities.

Godin LGX-SA Pickups
Seymour Duncan humbucker pickups and a five-way switch set-up, for a wealth of tonal options.

Godin LGX-SA Preamp
The acoustic voice of the LGX-SA is enhanced by an onboard preamp with a three-way graphic EQ.

Godin LGX-SA Outputs
Features three separate outputs/sounds: electric, acoustic, and 13-pin for Roland GR synths & other 13-pin devices.
Neck Fit/Pitch

The angle of the neck attachment--called pitch--has a huge impact on sound. A slight tilt forward will cause the guitar to sound boomy, a slight tilt backwards can make the guitar sound tinny. Equally important is the fit of the neck into the body. Godin guitars are renowned for tight-fitting neck attachments that support excellent neck/body energy transfer and precise neck pitch.

Godin Ergocut

Every Godin neck features an Ergocut shaping technique which bevels the edges of the fingerboard and frets back in towards the center of the fingerboard, providing an extremely comfortable worn-in feel.

Graph Tech "Tusq" Nut

The precision Tusq nut is made with Graph Tech's "man made ivory," which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and is impregnated with Teflon to improve the tuning performance of your guitar. Play as hard as you want, bend a few steps, and your strings glide back into tune. The highly resonant material also means you'll get crystal-clear, bell-like high end, big open lows, and an overall sustain increase.

The Electric Voices

The LGX-SA delivers electric sounds via 2 Seymour Duncan humbucker pick-ups (SH II jazz in the neck and a Custom III in the bridge) thanks to a special 5-way switch set-up, extra meaty humbucker tones co-exist with glassy single coil sounds in the second and forth position.

The Acoustic and Synth Voices

Turn down the electric volume and raise the volume on the transducer saddles and the LGX-SA becomes an incredibly authentic-sounding 'acoustic' guitar. The acoustic voice of the LGX-SA is enhanced by an onboard preamp with a three-way graphic EQ. The two outputs are set up so that the electric and acoustic voices can be blended in the guitar using a single patch cord or at the amp/mixer using both outputs.

The third voice on the LGX-SA comes in the form of its synth tracking, which simply put, is the best in the business. As with all of Godin synth-ready instruments, a built-in 13-pin connector provides direct access to all Roland GR-Series synths as well as most other 13-pin devices.

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Amber Flame Leaftop RN)

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Amber Flame Leaftop RN) Review

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Amber Flame Leaftop RN) Feature

  • Bolt-on rock maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays
  • Two Godin GS1 single-coils and GHB1 humbucker with five-way switch, tone, and volume
  • Adjustable tremolo bridge and Graphteq Tusq nut
  • Godin high-ratio sealed tuners
  • Body constructed of silver leaf maple anchor and poplar sidepieces with flame maple top

The SD 22 combines the easy feel of a short scale with the added snap of a rock maple neck. The short scale reduces string tension, which provides easy string bending and augments the low frequency response. The compact feel of the neck and the diagonal radius carved into the body produces exceptional balance and comfort. In short, this guitar is fun to play, and lends itself to classic rock and R&B sounds.

Godin SD 22

Maple and Poplar Body

The SD 22 is constructed with a blend of two tonewoods. A center of silver leaf maple serves as an anchor for the neck and is flanked by poplar sidepieces, resulting in Godin's stated goal of making electrics that begin with a great acoustic sound. Solid body instruments may not produce much in the way of volume, but make no mistake, wood weight and density, type (and quality) of the neck/body attachment, type of bridge and nut material all have an impact on that final sound.

Godin SD 22 Pickups
One Godin GHB1 humbucker and two Godin GS1 single-coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for serious tonal options.
Godin SD 22 Headstock
Godin high-ratio sealed tuners and Graphteq Tusq nut.
Rock Maple Neck With Rosewood Fingerboard

There are many grades of maple available out there. "Rock maple" is the term often used to describe a particularly hard variety of the wood that grows in colder climates. Rock maple necks produce excellent sustain, stability and feel, and pair up equally well with Rosewood and Maple fingerboards.

The SD 22's rosewood fingerboard further emphasizes the neck's mid-range, producing a more aggressive sound. The "22" stands for 22 frets, of course. The fingerboard features classic dot inlays.

Godin Pickups

The SD is loaded with one Godin GHB1 Humbucker and two Godin GS1 Single coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for maximum sonic power. The pickups share a volume and tone control.

Godin pickups are designed to be dynamic, responsive and transparent. Whether you play lightning fast country licks or big fat power chords, you'll appreciate the versatility of these pickups.
